Brandon, FL - Brandon, FL - Big news for Tampa Bay crafters! The HGTV program "That's Clever" solicited applications from creative people (applications closed Dec. 13, 2006) through area art guilds and just might show the work of some of the talented people you know.

The New Year opens at Center Place with the fine Sumi-ink paintings of Korean artist Sun Nam Kim.

The exhibit will continue through January. Call 685-8888.

With her spectacular a one-woman show at Center Place in November of 2006, Peggy Little will open the New Year as "Artist of the Month" at Pat's Corner Gift Shop at Center Place. There will be a shop "After Christmas Sale" from Jan. 8 to 18. Hours are Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Thursday evenings from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Call 689-0319

Both Pat's Corner Gift Shop at Center Place and the Annual Patricia B. Odiorne Scholarship are named for Patricia B. Odiorne, a dedicated servant of the community and the arts. In May, a scholarship of $1000 will be awarded to a graduating Greater Brandon High School Senior. The student, with a GPA of 2.5 or more, must be actively involved in artistic and/or community service.

Contact your school guidance counselor for an application. Deadline for application is Feb. 7, 2007.

 The Brandon League of Fine Arts kicks off 2007 with a demonstration, "Oil Portraits from Life" with artist Kerry Vosler, on Jan. 15, the third Monday of the month. All interested artists are welcome to this free demonstration and monthly league meeting.

 This month, league member artist Ruth Soucek exhibits her watercolor, acrylic and oil paintings at the Valrico Bank, SR 60 in Valrico.

The East Hillsborough Art Guild Members Exhibit, featuring 22 artists, including six miniaturists, will be shown at the Bruton Memorial Library in Plant City. The opening reception will be held Jan. 7. Call 757-9700 or 707-8091 for more information. The guild is also holding an artists workshop for members and non-members, Saturday, Jan. 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. To register, call 754-2859.

Tampa Realistic Artists will display the works of their new members in a January exhibit at the Ole Hyde Park Art Center. That show runs through the month and then the really "Big 500 Landscape Show," as in $500 cash awards big, is presented Feb. 6 through March 3. The opening reception is Feb. 9 from 6 to 9 p.m. For entry information, call 251-3780. Photography not accepted.

The deadline for registration for the Lakeland Art Guild's portrait workshop is Jan. 19, with the class, painting from photos, being held Saturday, Feb. 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The class is limited to 20 artists. Call (863) 858-1126.
