Celebrate New Year's With Dinner, Music
Be one of the first to toast the New Year. American Legion Post 148 will host an early New Year's celebration from 7 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday. The jazz band Take Note will perform jazz selections and dance music. The post is at 7240 U.S. 301 S. in Riverview. Cost is $15 per person or $25 per couple. 'My Big Fat Italian Funeral'
MurderS She Wrote's Murder Mystery Dinner Theater presents Brandon area actors Tisha Goble and Pepper McGowan in an encore of "My Big Fat Italian Funeral" on Saturday. It starts with social time at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and the show at 6:30 at the Radisson Hotel, 20967 U.S. 19 N., Clearwater. Tickets are $46 for dinner and the show. Share The Gift Of Story Time
Do you have a favorite children's book that you'd like to give to a child in need? Barnes & Noble Booksellers, 122 Brandon Town Center Drive, Brandon, is holding a holiday book drive to benefit the Redlands Christian Migrant Association, which provides child care and early education for children of migrant farm workers and rural, low-income families. Shoppers can buy a children's book that will be given to an underprivileged child in the Brandon area. The store hopes to collect 2,000 books before the drive ends Tuesday. Call (813) 685-5503.
Snow Men, Santa And Cars, Oh My
If Christmas lights delight you, Barrington Oaks East should be your destination. A community off Lumsden Road between John Moore and Bryan roads offers a spectacular Christmas display. Visitors can see many lighted, animated characters - bears throwing a ball, a helicopter, race cars, a ferris wheel, an 8-foot Uncle Sam Santa, trees, deer, snowmen, inflatable decorations and more. Gates are open from 6 to 11 p.m. nightly and until 12:30 a.m. New Year's day.
Chill Out At Christian Cafe
Have a cup of java and get the spirit when Life Center of Brandon offers entertainment by Christian musicians from 6:30 to 8 p.m. the first Wednesday monthly at 731 W. Brandon Blvd., Brandon. The All American Dream Team Superstars will hold the 2008 Masquerade Ball, baby contest and beauty pageant, starting with registration at 1 p.m., followed by the program at 2 p.m. Jan. 6 at the Best Western Conference Center, 9331 Adamo Drive, Brandon. Age divisions for boys and girls are infants to 23 months, ages 2 to 3 and ages 4 to 6. Additional categories for girls are ages 7 to 9, 10 to 12, 13 to 15 and 16 and older.
