Center Place Announces April 2007 Activities

The following events and classes have been scheduled at the Center Place Fine Arts & Civic Association, 619 Vonderburg Drive. Call: 685-8888.

* The Adult Student Art Show with work by students of Center Place will be held through April 30 in the Mook Gallery. The artist reception will be April 5 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

* Arts Power will present "Harry the Dirty Dog" April 23 at 11:45 a.m. Tickets for age 2 and up cost $4 for members or $5 for nonmembers and must be purchased in advance.

* Katie Adams, puppeteer and storyteller, will present "Johnny Appleseed" April 26 at 11:45 a.m.
Tickets are required for age 2 and up and cost $4 for members and $5 for nonmembers.

* "Prince of Frogs," a water conservation fable, will be presented May 11 at 7 p.m. by Stages Productions. Admission is free.

* The 23rd annual patron party, "Lasso the Arts," will be held May 19 at the Tampa Convention Center. Crystal Blue will provide music and Aramark will cater the dinner. There will be a silent and live auction.

* "The Three Little Pigs" will be presented June 1 at 11:45 a.m. and 7 p.m. Recommended for ages 3 and up. Tickets will go on sale April 17 and are $4 per person.

* "Bananimagination" will be presented June 21 at 11:45 a.m. Tickets go on sale April 17 and are $4 for members, $5 for nonmembers.

Children's workshops

* Chess Grand Prix for ages 6 and up will be held April 15, 22 and May 6 from 1:30 to 4:15 p.m. All ages and skill levels are welcome and chess sets will be provided. The cost is $25 for members and $35 for nonmembers. Applications are online at www.centerplacebrandon.com or in the office at Center Place.

* Fun Painting for Children for ages 7 to 13 takes place Thursdays beginning April 5 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Cost for the four-week class is $28 for members and $38 for nonmembers.

* Drawing for Kids ages 8-10 takes place Thursdays beginning April 5 from 6 to 7 p.m. Cost for the four-week course for members is $28 and $38 for nonmembers.

* Drawing for Kids 11 and up is a workshop for the serious students and will be taught Thursdays beginning April 5 from 7 to 8 p.m. Cost for the four-week course is $28 for members and $38 for nonmembers.

* Let's Draw with Uncle Don is for ages 4, 5 and 6. In the workshop, children will learn how to make simple drawings of everyday objects Wednesdays beginning April 4 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Cost for the four-week course for members is $28 and $38 for nonmembers.

* Art Adventures for Mommy & Me for ages 2 to 5 and their caregivers takes place April 17 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. The cost for members is $20 and $25 for nonmembers. The fee covers one child and one caregiver; the cost for an additional child is $15.

* Kids are invited to make self-portraits from clay April 9 and 23 from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. The cost for members is $17 and $22 for nonmembers.

Adult workshops

* Design and watercolor for all levels will take place Thursdays beginning April 5 from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The cost for the four-week course is $36 for members and $46 for nonmembers.

* Watercolor values for intermediate students will be taught April 10 and 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost for the two-day course is $40 for members and $50 for nonmembers.

* Oil painting for all levels will take place April 4, 18 and 25 from 10 a.m. to noon. Cost for members is $13 per class and $18 per class for nonmembers.

* Creative watercolor for students with basic watercolor painting experience and the intermediate student who wishes to continue learning new techniques will take place Wednesdays beginning April 4 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Cost for the four-week course is $40 for members and $50 for nonmembers.
