Brandon - Brandon - The Brandon Junior Woman's Club, a member of the Greater Federation of Woman's Clubs, will host a children's health fair Oct. 6 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Woman's Clubhouse, 129 N. Moon Ave., behind Wendy's.
Health screenings by University Community Hospital and The Little Clinic will be available free of charge to children of all ages. Ident-A-Kid, child safety, dental and exercise information will be available along with goodie bags. The first 100 children will receive a free book.
October is the beginning of the annual Operation Holiday Support running Oct. 1 to Nov. 30. A box will be available at the children's health fair for people to drop off supplies for troops stationed overseas.
There are two ways the community can support the troops. They can drop off items or sponsor a shoebox for a soldier by donating $8.95. Donation checks can be made payable to the Brandon Junior Woman's Club, P.O. Box 66, Brandon, FL 33509.

Suggested items for the troops are: black socks, gel insole heels, shaving gel, candy that won't melt, prepackaged snacks, envelopes, writing paper, disposable cameras, Advil/Tylenol, mouthwash, cold/flu tablets, toothpaste, Clorox wipes, inflatable pillow, travel games, Q-tips, nonreflective sunglasses, lip balm, deodorant, Febreeze, beef jerky, AA batteries, throat lozenges, eye drops, power bars, Pop Tarts, dryer sheets, peanuts, dried fruit, DVD movies, holiday fun items such as Santa hats, small stockings and candy canes. In addition, the Brandon Junior Woman's Club will host its second annual bunco event to support its annual children's holiday party.
The party provides clothing, shoes, socks, underwear and at least three toys, books and school supplies for 80 to 100 underprivileged Brandon area children each year.
The bunco event will be held Oct. 18 beginning with a social from 6 to 6:45 p.m. at Center Place with wine, sodas and a silent auction featuring Southwest Airline tickets, Buccaneers memorabilia, a stay at a Holiday Inn, gift certificates and other items.
