Published: October 17, 2007

It was another week of perfection around Tampa area bowling centers, with three 300s, plus an 800 series.

Southpaw Larry Purdie finally decided to not 'straighten things out,' and it paid off last week with his first 300 game.

Julio Lozada has eight perfect games to his credit, with the latest in the toughest manner of all - the third game, when conditions change drastically. It came last week in Brandon Crossroads Bowl's Monday Mix-Ups League.

Greg Blankenship rolled 300 and Joe Brannon an 808 series, also at BCB.

'I've had three prior 299s,' said Purdie, 'and in every one of them, I threw that last shot a little straighter to make sure I didn't miss the pocket. I left the 7 pin standing each time. So this time, I threw the ball out like I normally do and they all fell.'

Purdie's perfecto came in Pin Chasers Midtown's Sardegna's Pro Shop Industrial League and was the lead game of a 729 series. He followed the 300 with games of 214 and 215.

Lozada, after games of 213 and 226, conquered the ever-changing lane conditions with perfect game No. 8 for a 739 series. The only worrisome strike was in the seventh frame when the ball went a little high, but carried.

It was Lozada's third 300 in Tampa. He rolled five while stationed in the military in Wyoming.

OAKFIELD LANES: Two bowlers stood on the approach last week with a 12th-ball opportunity for perfection, only to fall a bite short.

Tony Varano's 299-783 led the James Rivard Pontiac GMC Men's League, but he was closely followed by Chris Keyes' 298-771 and Elliot Reyes' 290-755.

Other good scores in that league were Mike Murkin 279-734, Bobby Farr 279-734, Nick Rich 279-727, Mike Tuzzolino 278-719, Jeff Krause 268, Kim Kimmel Jr. 268 and Jeff Bishop 267.

Other good scores last week for the men were Richard Bartrowski 267-744, Rob Mitchell 279-690, Mike DeVore 277-684 and John Newman 278.

Debbie Parham paced the women with 255-670, while Barbara Martin had 276-631 and Susan Lowrance 248-624.

AMF UNIVERSITY: Robert Dunaj and Darin Hays led the men, while Shaina Schwartz and Casie Soderstrom paced the women last week.

Dunaj had a high game of 269, while Hays posted a high series of 711 for the men. Other good scores were Stephen Best 248-695, Dunaj 666, Hays 255, Billy Wilson 226-619 and Miguel Carrillo 233.

Schwartz had high game for the women with 221, while Soderstrom posted 212-585 for high series. Other good scores were Pat Bally 210-560, Lynn Helsel 201-551, Sarah Macander 197-551 and Schwartz 523.

PIN POINTS: Alan Mai, Bobby Cupp, Eric Oglesby and Pam Stewart were the big guns in the Pinarama Lanes Base Exchange League. Cupp and Oglesby shared high series for the men with 691 apiece, while Mai had high game of 279. Stewart led the women with 226-578.
