BRANDON - It may be next year before Hillsborough County can install a new traffic light at Vonderburg Drive and Parsons Avenue.
And that is questionable.
'It depends if things go well,' said Sandy Pettit, the county's project manager. 'It is just a matter of everyone doing what they are supposed to.'
The light was supposed to already have been working.
But the project got red-lighted as the county's public works department, its water resource department and developer Santer Homes hashed out their various responsibilities.
Santer is building a 47-unit town home project on the south side of Vonderburg west and south of the intersection. The company must install a left-turn lane on Vonderburg at the intersection and another one at the entrance of the development.
The county water department has agreed to move the water and sewer mains that run under the intersection and along Vonderburg and also move a fire hydrant.
The county's parks department is also involved, responsible for moving the outfield fences at the South Brandon Little League fields at the intersection's southwest corner.
'It looks like everyone is finally ready to go,' said Craig Mahlman, a manager with the county's planning and growth management department.
Mahlman said the staging of work among the parties took time.
He said the county won't issue certificates of occupation for Santer's residences until the work is completed.
Pettit said the signal is being designed to accommodate any future widening of either road.
She said it usually takes about six to eight months to build a mast arm signal like the one being planned once a contract is signed. But the other work has to be completed, she said, before her department can seek bids for the work.
