Things To Do: Girls' Night Out To Free Movie

Thursday

Girls' Night Out

Center Place presents Bunco, the game of dice, luck and fun. Bunco is a neighborhood party favorite.

No experience or skills are necessary.

The event will be held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday at Center Place, 619 Vonderburg Drive, Brandon. Beverages and snacks will be served.

Proceeds will benefit area children's programs. Tickets are $20 per person. Call (813) 685-8888.

Friday

'Some Like it Hot'

This week's movie offering at Winthrop Town Centre will be Bill Wilder's comedy classic, 'Some Like it Hot.'

The film will begin at 9 p.m. on the east wall of Publix supermarket at Providence Road and Bloomingdale Avenue in Riverview.

The movie, about two male musicians who disguise themselves as women to play in an all-girl band, stars Tony Curtis as Joe and Jack Lemmon as Jerry. Other cast members include Marilyn Monroe, George Raft and Pat O'Brien as agent Mulligan.

The free movie is being offered as part of a family Friday night summer movie series. Bring a blanket or beach chair, or borrow a green tarp on a first-come, first-served basis.

Pet Picture Day

Picture Day at Dapper Doggie will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Dress up your pet and stop at Dapper Doggie, 881 E. Bloomingdale Ave., Brandon, and have a photograph taken by Attila, a pet photographer with Long Lasting Images, a pet studio on wheels.

The $20 sitting fee includes one 5-by-7 photo.

Saturday

Relay For Life

The American Cancer Society is hosting a registration party for Relay For Life teams, from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday. The party will take place at the S. E. Hillsborough American Cancer Society, 1462 Oakfield Drive, Brandon.

Teams that register early can enjoy a day of barbecue and prizes and will be entered in a grand prize drawing. The fee to register a team of 15 or less is $100.

Italian Funeral

MurderS She Wrote's Murder Mystery Dinner Theater will present Brandon area actors Tisha Goble and Pepper McGowan in an encore performance of 'My Big Fat Italian Funeral' on Saturday.

The festivities will start with a social hour at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and the show at 6:30 p.m. at the Radisson Hotel, 20967 U. S. 19 N., Clearwater.

Sunday

Ballet's Golf Benefit

The Brandon Ballet will sponsor its annual four-person golf scramble starting with registration from 10:30 a.m. to noon Sunday. There will be a noon shotgun start.

The $75 fee per person includes a day of golf, buffet dinner, door prizes and awards. Proceeds will benefit the development of the arts in Tampa Bay.

Smoky Mountain Tale

Popular local playwright Terry Abbott presents the latest in his series of musical productions with The Village Players' production of 'Moonshine: A Smoky Mountain Tale' at the historical Valrico Civic Center through September.

Set during the 1880s, the plot follows two feuding clans of moonshiners. The mood is set with lots of American folk music featuring banjos, mandolin, guitar and fiddle, selections such as 'John Henry' and 'Wayfaring Stranger.'

Proceeds will benefit the preservation and restoration of the civic center. Showtimes are 8:15 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $12. Call (813) 689-0044.
