The deaths of Nicholas Marcotrigiano, 17, and Hailey M. Weatherly, 15, in an early-morning crash on State Road 60 in Plant City Aug. 4 drew hundreds of messages of condolence and comments at TBO.com. The Florida Highway Patrol said Weatherly, of Valrico, was driving a 1999 Jeep Cherokee east alongside a 1996 Ford Ranger driven by Marcotrigiano, of Plant City, when the vehicles collided about 12:10 a.m. just east of Mud Lake Road. Marcotrigiano's passenger, Brandon L. Simonds, 17, and Weatherly's passenger, Amelia Lee Gold, 16, both of Valrico, were seriously injured in the crash. All four attended Bloomingdale High School last year. Simonds and Gold will be juniors there this school year. None of the teens were wearing seatbelts, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Here are some of the comments posted on TBO.com:

I'm just sad, angry, frustrated about this. These are the types of tragedies that just don't need to happen.

My heart is breaking for these parents. If we think back, I'm sure that each of us did a few things when we were younger that could've landed us in this same article. I send my heartfelt prayers of comfort to all families and friends involved.

Condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. That's just how quickly it can happen. A person thinks that they have all kinds of time, and then in the blink of an eye their time in this life is over.

These kids had the whole world ahead of them. Think about where you were when you were 15 and where you are now and all of the experiences you had, good and bad, up to this second in your life. They will never have those, nor will any of their friends\family have them with them.

My condolences go out to all of the families involved. I am so sorry that this happened. Makes me want to cry. ... I am no relation to any of these kids, nor do I know them, but just about everyone has or knows families with teenagers, and we all know that they all believe that they are 10 feet tall and bulletproof. This is just a tragic accident that no one had planned for. My heart goes out to all of them.
