Got Culture? Meet The Artists

An artists' reception will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. for the Henry McBride Exhibit at Center Place Fine Arts and Civic Association, 619 Vonderburg Drive, Brandon.

The Henry McBride Foundation, named after a renowned art critic who died in 1962, is dedicated to art.

The exhibit will be on display from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Feb. 29.

Vegas Theme Lights Up State Fair

Elvis impersonators, sequin-clad showgirls and choreographed musical performances will bring a taste of Las Vegas to Tampa at this year's Florida State Fair.

The state fair, which opens Thursday at the Florida State Fairgrounds, will include a Las Vegas Revue and the national Elvis impersonator competition finals.

Visitors can also enjoy an abundance of events, including fireworks, professional wrestling demonstrations, a roller derby championship and the Country Gold Tour 2008, featuring many popular country singers.

There will be food, rides, games and prizes. The Tampa Tribune is among the sponsors.

The fair opens at 9 a.m. Thursday and runs through Feb. 18. Closing times will vary depending on the day.

Admission is $10 for adults, $6 for ages 6 to 11 and free for 5 and younger. Parking is free.

Take A Valentine Evening Stroll
Sweet Memories Antiques and Collectibles at 608 N. Parsons Ave., Brandon, will host a special pre-Valentine's Day event from 5 to 8 p.m.

Guests can stroll through candlelit gardens. There will be drawings, gift baskets, sweets, hors d'oeuvres, beverages and music.

Items available for purchase will include jewelry, vintage linens, clothing, teacups and sets, vanity sets and perfume bottles.

All Weekend

'And Then There Were None'

Students from the Academic Achievement Center's Ambitious Acting Company will perform in the mystery comedy "And Then There Were None" Friday and Saturday night at the James McCabe Theater, 506 Fifth St., Valrico. Curtain time is at 7:30 p.m. both nights. Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for students ages 13 and younger.

The Academic Achievement Center is a participant in the McKay Scholarship Program for Students with Disabilities. Proceeds will benefit the students' spring trip to Arizona.

Brighten Seniors' Day At Valentine Party

Central Park Healthcare Rehab Center at 702 S. Kings Ave., Brandon, will hold "Sing Your Heart Out," a special Valentine's Day celebration for seniors at the center, from 10:45 to 11:30 a.m. Feb. 15.

The event will include songs and other activities by seniors, and entry costs only one Valentine's Day card to share with one of the center residents. The cards can be homemade.
