Gigantic Rummage Sale To Fund Mission Trips
Sporting equipment, furniture, clothing and small electronics will be for sale when the teenagers at First United Methodist Church hold a fundraiser to help pay for summer mission trips to help children in the Dominican Republic, Nashville, Tenn., and closer to home in St. Petersburg.
The sale will be at the Boys & Girls Club Bill Carey Brandon Unit, 213 N. Knights Ave., Brandon from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Michael McCrystal, director of student ministries, said shoppers will enjoy a unique approach to pricing: People pay what they think an item is worth and can afford.
"As a result, we have seen many families with limited incomes be able to purchase items that would not otherwise be available to them," he said.
The Boys & Girls Club is on the north end of the Brandon First United Methodist Church property. Call (813) 689-4161 or write to youth@fumcbrandon .org.
Fiesta Day Features Flan Competition
If you love flan, don't miss the fifth annual Flan Fest in Ybor City from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Centennial Park, Eighth Avenue at 19th Street.
The flan bake contest will feature sweet treats made by 40 contestants competing for cash prizes of up to $150. The winner will be named Top Flan in Tampa Bay at 2:30 p.m.
In addition to sampling flan, visitors will enjoy entertainment, exhibits and ethnic foods. Children's activities will include contests, prizes, demonstrations and educational activities.
