FishHawk PTA Wins Grant

LITHIA - The FishHawk Creek Elementary School PTA has won a $1,897 grant to fund its Take Your Family to School Week, part of a nationwide series of PTA events to be held Feb. 10-16.

The National Parent Teacher Association, an advocacy group for schools, parents and children, gave grants to 32 PTAs across the country. Melissa Erickson, president of the FishHawk PTA, said the awards were given based on plans for Take Your Family to School Week.

FishHawk PTA is planning a Future Falcons Story Hour on Feb. 10 for students' pre-school siblings. Also, each day during the week students in a different grade will invite parents to school breakfast.

On Feb. 19, the PTA will host an arts night at the school, with guest artists and hands-on art projects for students. Other events for art night are in the planning stages. The event will be held after Take Your Family To School Week because students will be taking writing tests that week, Erickson said.

"We're very pleased to be selected for this," she said.
