BRANDON - Take a gastronomic romp through Florida's food history and leap ahead to the state's modern cuisine starting at 7 p.m. Monday at Brandon Regional Library, 619 Vonderburg Drive, Brandon.
Andrew Huse, assistant librarian at the University of South Florida's Special Collections Department and Florida Studies Center in Tampa, will offer a look back at union soup houses, African-American juke joints, shady speakeasies, drive-in burger stands, barbecue pits, fish fries and palaces of luxurious culinary leisure.
Huse lectures about Florida's food culture and teaches a Florida gastronomy graduate course for USF's Florida Studies program. He authored the Columbia Restaurant's centennial cookbook and is researching the history of Florida restaurants and culture for another book.
For information about the library lecture, call senior librarian Jim Graves at (813) 744-5352.
