PLANT CITY - Retired lawyer and community leader Bob Edwards will be honored next month at a fundraising luncheon sponsored by the Gulf Ridge Council's Timucua District of The Boy Scouts of America.
Edwards, an Eagle Scout, played a key role in revitalizing the downtown historical district and has been involved in the Greater Plant City Chamber of Commerce. The father of nine also has been recognized for his commitment to young people and their role as future leaders.
"Mr. Edwards was chosen because of his heart for children. He cares an awful lot about kids, and he has a vision for the future," said Dean Snyder, who is on the board of directors for the Gulf Ridge Council.
This will be the seventh year the council recognizes someone for community involvement and Scouting affiliations. Previous honorees include former Mayor John Dicks, Charles White and Robert Trinkle.
The annual Friends of Scouting luncheon will be Feb. 21 at First United Methodist Church's Wesley Centre, 303 N. Evers St., Plant City. It is open to the public, with a minimum $25 per person donation to the Boy Scouts.
Seating is limited. Event organizers are taking reservations at (813) 752-2505.
