BRANDON – The Military Affairs Council of the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce will host a kickoff event at 8 a.m. July 9 for the council's new program, Operation Dove.
The initiative is an effort to increase support for the military personnel in the Brandon area. The program is made possible by contributions from the members of the chamber.
Some of the benefits that Operation Dove include:
• Maintain and distribute a list of licensed child care entities that offer military discounts or specials.
• Encourage and inform the military community of events and socials, by encouraging chamber members to post their events online at ww.brandonchamber.com.
• Maintain and distribute a referral list of chamber members offering a military discount for various services.
• Establish a community newcomer outreach program for relocating military personnel. Operation Dove will work with chamber members to offer a newcomer package.
• Operation Dove will work with schools that would like to offer a "buddy system" for military children starting in a new school.
• Operation Dove partners will explore networking events by engaging neighborhood associations.
• The Operation Dove partners will research and investigate the benefits and possible processes for an "Adopt a Family" program.
