BRANDON Tony Jr. and Bertha Saladino, long known for their support of youth baseball, have been named winners of Hillsborough County's 2008 Favorite Sons & Daughters Award.
County commissioners will present the couple's award at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the commission's board room on the second floor of the County Center, 601 E. Kennedy Blvd., Tampa.
The couple is best known for organizing their Saladino Baseball Tournament, which has been spotlighting high school baseball since 1981. They also have been active in civic and charity organizations and supported community and youth events.
Hillsborough County officials established the Favorite Sons & Daughters Award in 1995 to honor residents "who have distinguished themselves and made the community proud."
