BRANDON Diver Chris Colwill of Brandon, who qualified last week to compete in the Olympic Games in Beijing next month, will perform an exhibition and sign autographs at the Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center Saturday.
The exhibition will start at noon, and Colwill will sign autographs when the performance is finished, according to a statement issued today by the aquatic center, where Colwill trains. The center is at 405 Beverly Blvd., Brandon.
The Tampa Prep and University of Georgia graduate dominated his individual event, the 3-meter springboard, in early July at Selection Camp in Knoxville, Tenn., to earn a spot on the team.
Colwill also finished second at last month's Olympic trials and competed in recent world cups and world championships.
USA Diving held a news conference last week to formally name Colwill and his 11 teammates who will represent the United States in Beijing's diving competition.
This will be Colwill's second trip to the pool where the diving competition will take place in Beijing. In January, he dove in a world cup meet at China's National Aquatics Center.
His parents, Chuck and Debbie Colwill of Brandon, said they plan to be there for the Olympic Games.
Tribune staff writer Bill Ward contributed to this report.
