Get Trained To Serve The Needy

BRANDON - Cynthia Pinckney Ministries will hold a free volunteer training class with lunch and drinks from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the library and fellowship hall of Westminster Presbyterian Church, 402 Lumsden Road E., Brandon.

The training is required for anyone planning to volunteer to serve the homeless and needy at the ministry's Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners and will be repeated the last Saturday of each month through Oct. 25.

Children who will accompany their parents to either or both holiday meals also must undergo the training.

Churches and other organizations may schedule volunteer training sessions at their facilities by contacting Cynthia Pinckney, founder of the ministry.

Preregistration is required for the Saturday classes and may be completed on the ministry's Web site, www .cynthiapinckneyministries .org, or by writing to Pinckney at cp@cynthiapinckney ministries.org.

Quilt Workshop Puts Pieces Together

BRANDON - The Piecemakers Quilt Guild of Brandon will hold a workshop at 8:30 a.m. Saturday in the Fellowship Hall at First United Methodist Church of Brandon, 121 Knights Ave. N. Claudia Ingram and Nancy Mitchell, both of Valrico, will demonstrate how to make a cracker box quilt.

The fee is $15 for guild members, $25 for nonmembers. Participants must bring their own materials.

Young Actors Present Popular Family Musicals
VALRICO - Tampa Bay Family Theater, which draws child actors from the South Shore and greater Brandon areas, will present two popular musicals adapted for young thespians: "Annie Junior" at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Center Place Fine Arts and Civic Association, 619 Vonderburg Drive, Brandon; and "Willie Wonka Junior" at 2:30 and 7 p.m. Saturday in the sanctuary at Church Alive, 1603 Bloomingdale Ave., Valrico.

The directors are Tyler and Amy Leavitt and Karine Tolman. Apprentice directors for "Annie" include Aaron Abell, Logan Bessell, Joshua Burdett, Emily Di Monaco, Jordan King and Morgan Rodgers. Di Monaco is the sole apprentice director for "Willie Wonka."

"For the 'Annie' show, we have double-cast the performances," Levitt said. Leads for the Thursday performance include Megan Poole as Annie; Cameron Quigley as Daddy Warbucks; Madison Hayes as evil Miss Hannigan; Kayla Tarver as Lily; Brandt Bessell as Rooster; Katie Coffey as Grace; and Ally Parrish, Rachel Cosmas, Jackie Golabek, Becca Burkett, Leah Harrell and Kaitlyn Shenning as orphans.

Leads for the Friday show include Sarah Cool as Annie; Quigley as Warbucks; Kelsey Rodgers as Hannigan; Kara Hamilton as Lily; Bessell as Rooster; Sonia Buchanan as Grace and Lauren Cool, Mary Beth Feldman, Lauren Lubeck, Perry Rodgers, Mikayla DuBreuil and Maria Godwin as orphans.

Supporting cast members for both "Annie Junior" performances include Mary Angotti, Alexandra Aponte, Claudia Batke, Aliyah Caldas, Kendall Catone, Hailey Dickinson, Annika Ellenbogen, Connie Feeney, Emily Harrell, Jonathon Hayes, Addison Hobbs, Abigail Hublou, Destinee Keller, Jesse Keller, Lillie Lewis, Alex Longnecker, Jordan Oppolo, Madison Oppolo, Kiley Parrish, Sammy Parrish, Douglas Poole and Ellie Ryan.

Tickets are $6 for general admission and free for children 5 and younger.

The "Willie Wonka" cast includes Aaron Abell, Geoffery Benjamin, Logan Bessell, Kayla Buchanan, Joshua Burdett, Kailey Carpenter, Mackinaw Christian, Taylor Cosmas-Knox, Matthew Dykstra, Darian Edwards, Jenna Green, Joey Green, Zachary Green, Danielle Gross, Ellise Marie Howell, Jordan King, Michaela King, Alex Lubeck, Kristen Merritt, Matthew Monaco, Tyler Quigley, Morgan Rodgers, Janel Rodriguez, Levi Salmon, Amanda Schapiro, Emily Schapiro, Leeza Steacker and Michelle Whitaker.

Tickets for the matinee are $6 for general admission and free for children 5 and younger. Tickets for the 7 p.m. show are $10 for all ages and include a candy buffet, a cotton candy tree and other sweet treats.

Snippets

The Brandon Christian Writers group has canceled its June meeting and will meet next at 7 p.m. July 24 in the second-floor conference room at Brandon Regional Library, 619 Vonderburg Drive. The group usually meets the third Thursday of each month.
