RIVERVIEW - Serenity Meadows invites everyone to pay respect to military personnel at the annual Memorial Day observance at 10 a.m. Monday at Serenity Meadows Memorial Park, Funeral Home and Crematory, 6919 Providence Road, Riverview.

Calendar Girls Raise Money For Cancer
BRANDON - Celebrating life after loss seemed the theme of the 2008 Calendar of Cancer Survivors. So many were inspired by this positive message that the Southeast Hillsborough Unit of the American Cancer Society was able to donate nearly $7,000 from calendar sales to the American Cancer Society for breast cancer research.
Announcing the success of the project were Doris Sidoti of Valrico, board member of the Southeast unit; Mike Evans, board president; Heather Rice of Rice Graphics in Brandon, which printed the calendars; and Ed Booth, a board member, and Betty Huth, both of Huth and Booth, The Portrait Gallery, which photographed the calendar models.
Sidoti also recruited the models for the calendar. They included Lila Campanelli-Purifoy of Valrico, Virginia Carter of Valrico, Dana Dittmar of Lithia, Sue Gagain of Valrico, Kathleen Jacobs of Valrico, Becky Lloyd of Valrico, Dottie Berger-MacKinnon of Tampa, Erin Messano of Riverview, Tracy Sheehan of Tampa and Peggie Sherry of Lutz.
The calendar cover sported a photo of the Dragon Lady crew team, whose sponsors are Kathryn Kepes and the Center for Radiation Oncology of Brandon.
Old Testament History Told In 20 Minutes
BRANDON - The drama team of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church in Brandon presented Thomas Long's "The Complete History of the Old Testament in Twenty Minutes" on May 14. Nine performers and crew members, under the direction of Brenda Gibbs, created a fast-paced series of stories "with a simple set, a few props and a lot of attitude," Gibbs said.
The cast included Danny Greer, Molly Blanton, Thea Greer, Charles Harps, Sue Strebel, Bob Ackroyd, Bob Trimble as the voice of God, and Lynn Nankervis and her 14-year-old son, Sam Parejko.
Tom Karpenske was in charge of lighting. Bill Tiemann was technical adviser. Becky Tiemann was stage manager, helping with props and sound effects.
"I've really enjoyed working with this team of actors, but the best part is being able to show my son the joy of drama by performing with him," Nankervis said.
"It's a really fun show. Sometimes it gets a little crazy, but that's what makes it so entertaining," Harps said.
Some patrons came early for the church's weekly Wednesday night dinner.

Few Boating Guide Copies Remain
SUN CITY CENTER - Since 2007, the Cockroach Bay Users Group has printed 5,000 copies of a free "South Shore Nature Boating Guide."
They were distributed to local bait and tackle stores, libraries, marinas, chambers of commerce and marinas. Some "may still be available" at these places, said Charlie Feldschau, group president, although "reports have been received that local sources have been depleted."
Feldschau said copies are available until his supply is gone, by sending $1 to cover postage, your name, address and telephone number to 720 Masterpiece Drive, Sun City Center FL 33573.
The guide helps boaters navigate the waters of Tampa Bay's south shore flats, the Little Manatee River, Cockroach Bay Aquatic Preserve, E.G. Simmons Park and Wolf Branch. It also gives readers the locations of boat ramps, canoe and kayak launches and trails for canoes and kayaks. For information, call Feldschau at (813) 785-5086.
