BRANDON - Water service has been turned off to approximately 400 homes in the John Moore Road area while crews work to repair a leak at a connection on an 8-inch pipeline.
Once water service is restored, customers are advised to boil tap water used for cooking and drinking through at least Friday morning.
Customers affected are along John Moore Road, south of Wild Oak Drive to the Alafia River, including all streets and subdivisions that connect to John Moore Road in this area. Some of the subdivisions impacted include Camelot Woods, Dogwood Hills and Hickory Ridge.
The Hillsborough County Health Department requires a precautionary boil water notice be issued when the pressure in the lines drops below a certain level.
Customers are advised as a precautionary measure to boil tap water used for cooking and drinking. Health department officials said a rolling boil for one minute is sufficient. Water that is not boiled can be used for cleaning and bathing. Discard any ice from automatic ice-makers and allow washers to run clear before using them.
A notice will be issued when tests show the water system is free of contaminants for 48 hours.
Residents can check the status of the boil-water notice Friday by calling (813) 744-5600.
