BRANDON - A grandmotherly patron with foam curlers in her hair sat under a dryer Thursday at Le Salon Rouge, smiling curiously at the client next to her. Troy Trice, a 38-year old crane operator, spun in his chair and rocked an electric-blue Mohawk courtesy of stylist Yolanda Bonilla.
Salon owner Nicole Champagne said her stylists will offer free Mohawks for Tampa Bay Rays fans through the end of the baseball season so they can emulate team members sporting that renegade look.
Guys and gals can sport the shaved-to-the-skin style or the more forgiving, gelled-into-place "fauxhawk" Trice chose.
"We love the Rays," Champagne said. She said offering free Rayhawks' is "our way of supporting the team and getting people talking."
The salon, at 113 Brandon Blvd., is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are suggested. Call (813) 643-3690.
