Support For Troops Starts Today

The GFWC Brandon Junior Woman's Club launches its annual Operation Holiday Support to benefit U.S. military troops.

Supplies to be collected through Nov. 30 include black socks, gel insole heels, shaving gel, wrapped hard candy, pre-package snacks, Advil and Tylenol, mouthwash, over the counter cold and flu tablets, toothpaste, Clorox wipes, inflatable pillows, travel games, cotton swabs, non-reflective sunglasses, lip balm, deodorant, Febreeze, beef jerky, AA batteries, throat lozenges, eye drops, power bars, Pop-Tarts, dryer sheets, peanuts, dried fruit, DVD movies and other nonperishable items. Donations can be dropped off at the following locations:

•9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday to Friday - South Shore Group, 16637 FishHawk Blvd., Suite 103, Lithia. Call (813) 662-2355.

•9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday to Friday - Berg & Wheeler, 217 E. Robertson St., Brandon. Call (813) 685-0050.

•10 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday; 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday and Saturday; 12:30 p.m.-5 p.m. Sunday - The Pottery Patch, 2551 State Road 60 E., Valrico. Call (813) 643-0014.

Counting Crows, Maroon 5 In Concert

Live nation will present Counting Crows with Maroon 5 in concert at 7 p.m. at the Ford Amphitheatre, 4802 U.S. 301 N., Tampa.

Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $157, $76, $66.50 and $46.50 for reserved seating and $36.50 for lawn seating.

Create Holiday Cards For Troops Overseas

Valrico's honorary mayor, Tammy Holmberg, and Stampin' Up! have joined forces to create holiday cards for troops overseas from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. World Card Making Day, at Buckhorn Springs Golf & Country Club, 2721 S. Miller Road, Valrico.

Demonstrator Jeri Fontana hopes participants will create about 1,500 cards. Addresses for deployed troops are needed. Organizers need sponsors willing to give $50, $100 or $150. Call Fontana at (813) 684-3415 or e-mail jerifontana2001@yahoo.com.

Cars, Trucks And Automobiles

Mini Madness will present the 19th annual Slamfest custom car and truck show from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Florida State Fairgrounds, 4800 U.S. 301 N., Tampa.

Registration for showing vehicles costs $50. Admission for spectators costs $15 per person per day, free for ages 12 and younger. Parking costs $5 for cars, $10 for RVs and buses.

Go Green With Water Wisdom

The Hillsborough County Extension Office at 5339 County Road 579, Seffner, joins Hillsborough County Water Resource Services to sponsor free workshops on the use of water.

They will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 28 and 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Nov. 19.
