St. Andrew's Pumpkin Patch An Annual Rite Of Autumn

BRANDON - Volunteers barely finished unloading pumpkins from the tractor-trailer before residents were scurrying to claim the best of the batch at the St. Andrew's United Methodist Church Pumpkin Patch.

In a tradition marking the start of the community's fall season, the youth ministry unloaded hundreds of pumpkins of all sizes and shapes Sept. 27. The popular autumn gourds will be for sale through October 31 to benefit the ministry's mission work.

The pumpkin patch is open from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 7 p.m. Sundays. Prices range from $4 to $20.

St. Andrew's Children's Fellowship Team will host a Patch Bash at the pumpkin patch from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday with music, games and refreshments. Children are invited to dress up and have their photos taken in the haystacks.

On Oct. 25, the United Methodist Women will host their 40th annual fall craft fair from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with outdoor craft booths, a bake sale, a cafe and "Granny's Attic" featuring hand-me-downs. The event will be in the church's Family Life Center. Proceeds will benefit mission projects. Crafters and vendors interested in renting a booth should call Mary Jane at (813) 689-2572.

After the pumpkin patch closes for the season, at 6 p.m. Nov. 2, the church will host Jazz Under the Stars. Jazz Legacy will play old favorites and new arrangements. Families are invited to bring blankets and lawn chairs and enjoy coffee and other drinks donated by local vendors.
