RIVERVIEW - Hey, parents. Need a safe alternative for your little trick-or-treaters this Halloween?

Check out Trick or Treat Street, a secure, yet spooky hangout for all aspiring ghosts, goblins and ghouls.

Sponsored by the Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce, Riverview High and the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, the annual event will take place from 4 to 9 p.m. Oct. 25 at the school, 11311 Boyette Road.

Children in their Halloween finest can enter costume contests to compete for prizes in four brackets: infants to age 3 at 5 p.m.; ages 4 to 7, 5:45 p.m.; ages 8 to 11, 6:30 p.m.; and ages 12 and older, 7:15 p.m. The registration fee is $3 prior to Oct. 21 and $5 at the event. Last year, 200 costumed kids participated in the contests.

"We will have seven bounce houses, and this year we're selling 'bracelets' for unlimited entry," said Kitty Cunningham, the chamber's executive director. "They're $8 in advance and $10 otherwise."

Businesses may take part by setting up decorated booths or vehicles with Halloween-themed facades. Prizes will be awarded for booth design and decoration in several categories.

Children walk along the "street" filling their bags with candy and other goodies.

A number of Riverview High clubs will raise money by hosting games and selling sweets; the chamber will sell hot dogs and soda.

Sponsor and booth entry forms are available at the chamber, 10520 Riverview Drive.

"It's a great way for parents to allow their children the opportunity of trick-or-treating in the safety of a supervised, fun environment," Cunningham said. "We're expecting at least 5,000 people this year."
