St. Andrew's United Methodist Church will host more than 350 people at a Pink Ribbon Tea to heighten awareness about and raise money for breast cancer research from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 4 at the church, 3315 Bryan Road.
The tea has been an annual tradition at St. Andrew's for six years. Hostesses will serve guests treats, tea and hors d'oeuvres at a table decorated for the event.
The event is free, but guests are encouraged to donate to the cause.
"It is a time of celebration for survivors, a time of education for women and overall a very special event," said Susan Lewis, a pastor at St. Andrew's and a breast cancer survivor. Lewis is helping organize the event as a way to give back to the community.
The fashion show will feature Coldwater Creek clothing. All the models are breast cancer survivors. The guest speaker will be Lynn Nankervis, the parish health coordinator at St. Andrew's and also a breast cancer survivor.
Money from the Pink Ribbon Tea will be donated to the Breast Cancer 3-Day, an annual walk that benefits the Susan G. Komen for the Cure breast cancer research foundation.
Anyone interested in participating in the tea can call Nankervis at (813) 689-6849, ext. 207.
