Meet The Artists

Like local art? Want to meet the artists?

Center Place Fine Art and Civic Association will present its adult student art show in the Mook Gallery, 619 Vonderburg Drive, Brandon.

The event will honor all Center Place adult art students by displaying their art creations during April.

A free reception will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The show is sponsored and hosted by The Brandon League of Fine Arts.

Friday

Adopt A Water Body

Hillsborough County stormwater environmental education programs and the Southwest Florida Water Management District will present "2009 Lake, Pond and Stream Night," a family event, at the Museum of Science and Industry in Tampa from 6 to 9 p.m. at 4801 E. Fowler Ave., Tampa.

The free event will feature exhibits from environmental organizations and vendors. Presentations will include what to do with pet waste, vermicomposting and a question-and-answer session.

Poetry In Motion

If you are harkening back to the beatnick days, or never experienced them, check out the Hillsborough County Public Library Cooperative's ninth annual "Poetry & Jazz" poetry reading, with jazz in the background, at the Brandon Regional Library, 619 Vonderburg Drive, Brandon.

The free event, co-sponsored by the Friends of the Brandon Library, will be held at 2 p.m. Poets Philip Deaver, Peter Meinke, Gianna Russo and Helen Pruitt Wallace will read some of their original poems, accompanied by jazz artists Michael Ross on bass and David Pate on saxophone.

Spice Up Arts

Center Place Fine Art and Civic Association in Brandon will celebrate its 25th annual arts gala with Havana Nights at 7 p.m. April 25 at the Pepin Hospitality Center, 4121 N. 50th St., Tampa.

Guests can see classic automobiles on display, watch master cigar rollers demonstrate their talents, enjoy salsa and flamenco dancers, participate in live and silent auctions and drink mojitos, a traditional Spanish drink made with lime, mint leaves and white rum.

Proceeds will benefit children's programming at Center Place. Tickets are $125 per person and must be purchased in advance.

Corporate tables of eight are available for $1,250. Sponsorships are still available.

Pinto Horse Show

The Florida Pinto Horse Association will host a Pinto/Paint combined show in the Charlie Lykes Arena at the Florida State Fairgrounds, 4800 U.S. 301 N., Tampa, at 8:30 a.m. April 11 and 12.

Entry fees will apply for participants. Admission and parking are free for spectators. Visitors are asked to enter the fairgrounds at Orient Road.
