VALRICO - It took an army of cookie bakers to turn out the biggest of batches at Sweetie's Delights in Valrico.
Karen and Bill Walker, proprietors of the small family-owned bakery on Bloomingdale Avenue, enlisted a dozen friends and family members to help crank out 5,000 cookies destined for the U.S. National Armory Guard in Fayetteville, N.C.
Karen Walker said Pentagon officials familiar with the bakery's goods ordered the treats - more than 416 dozen chocolate chip truffle and chocolate coconut cookies - to deck the dessert table at a deployment ceremony for thousands of troops in Fayetteville next week.
Twelve people worked two eight-hour shifts to complete the considerable order.
"I called on every friend and family member I could find," Karen Walker said. "We were so honored to be able to do this for such an important event."
