BRANDON - This summer, 71 middle and high school students and 20 adult leaders from Bay Life Church in Brandon and Riverview will travel on mission trips to five poverty-stricken areas in the United States and abroad.
Bay Life youth pastor Chris Groover has accompanied students in his ministry on missions to Tennessee, Louisiana, Montana, Costa Rica and Navajo Nation, a 17-million acre Native American territory that occupies a northeast portion of Arizona, southeastern Utah and northwestern Utah.
Groover said the missions, organized by the church for the past five years, expose teens to the reality of poverty throughout the world. The results of the program, he said, have been phenomenal.
"We have witnessed students finding their purpose, developing their leadership skills, understanding the importance of service and growing in their relationship with God."
