TAMPA - Girl Scouts in this region will start the school year with an environmental message.
Be an Eco-Hero: Serve to Preserve is the scouts' theme for the 2009-10 school year, said Susan Barnes, spokeswoman for the Girl Scouts of West Central Florida.
They kick off the event Sept. 26 at Brooker Creek Preserve in Tarpon Springs.
Throughout the day, which celebrates National Public Lands Day, scouts and volunteers will learn ways to make a difference in the world around them, including ways to recycle, make environmentally friendly lunch choices, reduce their carbon footprints and conserve water.
Be an Eco-Hero: Serve to Preserve follows the theme of the new Girl Scout Journey unveiled this summer by Girl Scouts of the USA: It's Your Planet, Love it!
