VALRICO - Jeff Bynum has travelled to Central America on multiple church missions to provide free treatment for people with dental caries that need immediate attention but no insurance coverage or cash to foot the bill.
This month, the dentist hopes to bring relief and a smile to Brandon-area men, women and children.
"One does not need to travel to a Third World country these days to find people that are suffering," Bynum said.
Free dental exams and treatments will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 11 at Bynum's practice, Five Star Dental Care, 3203 Lithia-Pinecrest Road, Valrico.
Bynum's colleagues in other areas of the country who have provided gratis services advised him to be ready for an overwhelming response. He's OK with that.
"I pray that we can serve lots of people and those that we cannot serve will understand," he said.
It's not unusual, he said, for people in line at such events to take it upon themselves to usher children, the elderly and anyone in pain up in line.
"We will feel badly that we will not be able to help them all," Bynum said. "But I hope that it will go smoothly and those with the greatest needs will be served."
