BRANDON - Ever tried Trinidad chili or Hot and Wild chili?
Now's your chance.
Grace Bible Church of Brandon is hosting its first-ever chili cook-off from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. July 12. And there's still time to enter the competition, said Youth Pastor Paul Shirley.
"We've already got about 15 contestants and asked them all to give their chili a name and a description," Shirley said. There's black bean, Scottish, Green and Irish. There's even firehouse chili that will be prepared by, who else but a group of firefighters.
The entry fee is a pot of chili.
For those who are all about tasting, tickets are $7 for individuals at the door or $15 for the whole family. Everyone will get a bowl and a spoon and some cornbread to go along with their appetite.
Proceeds from the cook-off will go to send the church's youth to a Christian camp in Lake Placid this summer. "This year, we had to raise all the money for camp," Shirley said.
For the winner, there's a trophy on the line.
To sign up as a contestant, contact Shirley at paul@gbcb.org by Thursday or call the church at (813) 662-9622.
Reporter Yvette C. Hammett can be reached at (813) 627-4763.
