BRANDON - The students at Central Baptist School are growing like weeds.
School officials are clamoring to keep up.
Their first step in meeting that goal is to add ninth grade to the school at 402 Windhorst Road this coming school year.
Another grade will be added each year and a new building is in the planning stages, Principal Steve Lindquist said.
"Our first graduating class will be in 2013," Lindquist said. "We're excited about it."
Central Baptist Church applied in June for a modification to its special-use permit, which allows the school to operate in a residential area between Kingsway Road and Parsons Avenue.
The school, started in 1980, has 360 students from 3 years old up, with four ninth-graders enrolled, Lindquist said.
"Even though it may seem like a precarious time to start a high school, we feel it's the right time," Pastor David O'Hara said.
"Most of our students, at the base level here, are getting an education about equal to advanced-level students in public schools," O'Hara said.
