Meet the new mayor of Brandon

BRANDON - Connie Smaldone, a Realtor with South Shore Real Estate Group in Lithia, claimed the title of honorary mayor of Brandon moments before the march at Brandon's annual Fourth of July parade.

Smaldone, who earned the title by raising $16,000 for local charities, will serve on the board of The Community Roundtable, which sponsors of the parade and mayor's race, and will represent Brandon in attendance at proclamations, ribbon cuttings and charity fundraisers.

Aside from her commitment to support programs for children and families, Smaldone said she'll go to bat for local small businesses and become involved in the progression of the Brandon Community Plan.

"In order to thrive in the challenging economic times we are faced with, we must - as a community - support each other and learn from each other," she said.
