Family and friends gathered July 17 at the home of Army Sgt. 1st Class Jason J. Fabrizi in Colorado Springs, Colo., to console his widow, Kristine Kool, who is expecting the couple's second child in October.
Fabrizi, 29, died July 14 in Afghanistan when his mounted patrol was attacked with rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fire, according to the Department of Defense.
The 1998 Armwood High School graduate was killed during his fourth tour in the Middle East. He was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo.
Among his numerous medals were two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart.
Fabrizi's mother, Mary Hess, in a telephone call from her late son's house, said he was honored to serve his country.
"He was proud to be doing what he was doing," Hess said. "He was just a wonderful person."
Fabrizi was laid to rest this past week at Riverside Cemetery in Cleveland, where he was born. To sign the guest book for Jason Fabrizi, go to www.tbo.com and enter keyword: Jason Fabrizi.
