TURKEY CREEK - Turkey Creek Road in eastern Hillsborough County is open to traffic again after a house fire closed it for several hours.
The fire broke out at an older frame home at 5432 Turkey Creek Road about 3:15 a.m. today, an incident report states.
Everyone inside the home is accounted for, and no one was hurt, according to a fire investigator.
The Tampa Bay Chapter of the American Red Cross is helping six adults and two children, including a newborn.
Red Cross personnel is meeting with the family to address emergency needs, chapter spokeswoman Janet McGuire said.
"They are coming into the office," she said, "and we will find out what other kinds of help they need.
"We will take care of their immediate needs at first, like food, shelter and clothing," and then their long-term needs, she said.
Members of the family who may be traumatized by the fire are eligible for counseling through the chapter, she said.
Twenty-eight firefighters, four water tankers, four fire engines, an aerial truck, a brush truck and an air supply truck battled the fire.
Fire investigators do not know how the fire started.
