Published: June 3, 2009

VALRICO - When family members and friends were diagnosed with breast cancer, three community theater actresses decided to put their talents toward helping to find a cure for the disease.

After successful run of their three-woman show, "Parallel Lives," at the Village Players James McCabe Theatre in Valrico in April, Cindy Miller-Ray, Kim Sivret and Mollie Anderson will return with an encore performance Friday and Saturday with all proceeds going to the Florida Suncoast affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure breast cancer foundation.

"It was just one of those things we felt strongly about," Anderson said. "We had all been affected by breast cancer in some way and just felt we need to do something to help."

Show times are 8 p.m. Friday and 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday at the theater, 506 Fifth St.

.Anderson called the performance a PG-13 rated adult comedy.

"This is one skit after another, like 'Saturday Night Live,'" Anderson said. "It's hysterical."

Anderson met Miller-Ray eight years ago through The Crossing church. A longtime community theater actress, Miller-Ray persuaded Anderson, also a community theater fan, to join the Village Players. The two met Sivret about a year ago, also through the church, and she promptly joined the theater troupe.

Each has performed in various productions. However, the production of "Parallel Lives" in April was their first three-woman show.

Written by Kathy Najimy and Mo Gaffney, "Parallel Lives" is a humorous series of vignettes that examine the struggles between men and women in the modern world trying to find equality and love at the same time.

During the 21/2-hour production, the three women portray a series of characters including supreme beings, suburban housewives, teenagers on a date, a man and woman in a country bar and sisters at their grandmother's funeral.

"When we approached Greg Summerall, the acting president of the Village Players, and the board of directors, about doing a benefit show, they immediately ran with the idea," Sivret said. "They said we should give 100 percent of the proceeds to Susan G. Komen. It just shows what kind of organization it is. No one is in it for himself."

For tickets or to donate to the charity, call Anderson, (813) 417-4355. For details about the Village Players, go to www .myspace.com/jamesmccabe theater or www.villageplayers .scriptmania.com.
