TAMPA - About 200 people showed up Saturday for a motorcycle ride to honor a Hillsborough County sheriff's sergeant killed while on duty two years ago.
Sgt. Ron Harrison, 55, died after being shot while en route to a DUI checkpoint near State Road 60 and Kings Avenue in Brandon.
The Ride for Ron Memorial, which also was a fundraiser for Mothers Against Drunk Driving, went from the University of South Florida Sun Dome to O'Brien's Irish Pub and Restaurant, 701 Lumsden Road, Brandon, which is at the southwest corner of the intersection where Harrison was shot.
Among bikers was Harrison's sister, Artesa Bohannon. "This is just overwhelming," she said. "The outpouring here is unbelievable."
