BRANDON - Art is often the reflection of the heart. This Saturday, one group of local artists wants to give from the heart.
Artists with works on display at the Creative Native Gallery, just west of Brandon on Falkenburg Road, learned about the Resources in Community Hope House program, also known as RICH House. The program, sponsored by the Tampa Police Department, provides much-needed services to at-risk kids in the Sulphur Springs community.
What began as an after school program has grown into a strong bond of trust between neighborhood residents and the police department that serves them. The effort has expanded to other city departments that have embraced the safe-haven concept, changing hearts and minds, one child and family at a time.
In keeping with the spirit of helping others, the artists intend to use their time and talents to benefit RICH House.
They have created unique, one-of-a-kind nutcrackers to be auctioned off to benefit the program during The Art of Giving, set for 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the gallery, 5307 N. Falkenburg Road, Tampa.
The artists are excited about the event and hope they can provide a real reason for these children to smile this holiday season.
