BRANDON - The Brandon Choral Society is looking for people who love to sing and would like to join in the presentation of the Christmas portion of Handel's "Messiah" on Dec. 20.
The performance will take place at 3 p.m. at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Valrico. No auditions are required, although a familiarity with choral singing would be helpful.
The Brandon Choral Society launched in 2008 with Robert Romanski, the director of music ministries at Ruskin United Methodist Church and Chris Westfall, director of music ministries at St. Stephen Catholic Church.
Under the direction of Robert Romanski, accompanied on the organ by Chris Westfall, more than 60 singers from many of the Baptist, Catholic, Lutheran, Methodist and Presbyterian churches in the Brandon, Valrico, Riverview and Ruskin areas participated in the inaugural performance that year.
The society's goal is to have more than 100 singers lift their voices in this year's performance. Singers should bring their own copies of the vocal score but there will be some available for purchase at $10 each.
Singers will be provided with a practice CD of their parts (soprano, alto, tenor or bass). Rehearsals will be from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 5049 Bell Shoals Road, Valrico, on Nov. 24, Dec. 1, Dec. 8 and Dec. 15. A dress rehearsal is scheduled for Dec. 18.
Anyone interested in joining can contact Deidre Young at (813) 685-0287 or sawubona@verizon.net, or Mary Lou Danahar at mld1015@yahoo.com or (813) 671-3703.
