BRANDON - Carol Faessler and Darcy Hermida have a novel idea on tap. The partners are gearing up for the Nov. 6 grand opening of Bootleggers, 650 Oakfield Dr., where customers can handcraft wine, beer, liquor and soda to their own taste, "at a fraction of the cost," Hermida said. The shop provides home-brewing supplies for hobbyists and offers classes for wanna-be bootleggers. Brew parties are available after hours by appointment. Store hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. For information, call (813) 643-9463.
Musician releases CD, plans party
Melissa Brethauer, a vocalist, guitarist and classically trained pianist who lives in Riverview, has released an 11-song disc titled "Waiting." The 20-year-old University of Central Florida junior will perform at a CD release party open to the public from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Nov. 6 at Music Showcase, 402 Oakfield Drive. The disc, with music and lyrics written by Brethauer, features a variety of genres ranging from pop and rock to R&B and country. Canine caregivers attend conference
Angie Frazier, owner of Canine Cabana in Riverview, and staff member Emmy Robinson recently attended a Pet Care Services Association convention in Orlando. The women were pleased to meet Victoria Stilwell, host of the Animal Planet show "It's Me or the Dog." Stilwell spoke about the importance of the pet care association's code of ethics. Canine Cabana, at 9708 Carr Road in Riverview, offers dog day care, boarding and training. The facility, recipient of the 2009 Best of Brandon - Dog Kennel award, features an indoor, air-conditioned, off-leash day care and a self-service pet wash.
