BRANDON - Publix volunteers from the Brandon region gave much-needed love and attention to Bloomingdale West Park in Brandon on Oct. 15.
The effort, coordinated by Keep Hillsborough County Beautiful, was part of the United Way's 16th annual Day of Caring.
More than 50 volunteers weeded, raked and laid 90 bags of mulch around the playground and education center, 3940 Canoga Park Drive. KHCB worked with Donna Clouse, the facility's director. The center is part of the Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department, which provided the mulch.
"With decreases in parks staff, volunteers will be required support for the future of our parks," said Daisy Packer, KHCB's program coordinator. "Keep Hillsborough County Beautiful will coordinate cleanups and beautification efforts whenever we have a group willing or a park in need."
The mission of Keep Hillsborough County Beautiful is to prevent litter, promote recycling and conservation, clean up and beautify our community through action, education, awareness and by fostering stewardship.
KHCB works with volunteers on a continuing basis to clean neighborhoods and spruce up communities. For information about participating in a community cleanup, contact KHCB at (813) 960-5121.
Christine Commerce is executive director of Keep Hillsborough County Beautiful.
