I'd pay good money to see the look on Don Rogers' face the first time he drives through the State Road 60 and Kings Avenue intersection in Brandon and spots the men and women in bright orange vests routing traffic around cones, barricades and survey equipment.

Two weeks ago, we published excerpts from Rogers' e-mail to me about his ideas to improve the congested corner. We directed the Valrico man and others with suggestions to contact Hillsborough County's traffic engineering department, where traffic studies, design reviews and traffic counts are born.

A mere eight days later, voila! Surveys for a study to determine possible improvements to the junction were under way.

Next!

Really though, county spokesman Steve Valdez said the traffic hot spot has for quite some time been on the county's long range plan to improve intersections throughout Hillsborough. Plans to improve the rush-hour bottleneck were not, he said, accelerated in response to anything published in a newspaper or by a barrage of calls to the county.

Valdez said survey crews expect to complete their work and clear out of the road in about a week. We'll keep you posted on the study's progress.
